Jellyfish Pattern

(Worked in continuous rounds unless stated otherwise)

Materials

  • Safety eyes (size depends on yarn weight; 14 mm used here)

  • Primary yarn (weight 6 used here, e.g. Bernat Baby Blanket)

  • Secondary yarn (contrast color)

  • Fiberfill stuffing

  • Safety eyes (or black yarn to sew them on)

  • Yarn needle

Abbreviations

  • sc – single crochet

  • hdc – half double crochet

  • inc – increase (2 sc in one stitch)

  • dec – decrease

  • ch – chain

  • FLO – front loop only

  • MR – magic ring

  • FO – fasten off

  • R# – round/row number

  • CC – color change

Body (make 1)

Start in primary color. Switch to secondary at R9.

R1: 8 sc in MR (8)
R2: inc in each stitch around (16)
R3: (sc, inc) × 8 (24)
R4–R7: sc around (24) — 4 rounds total
R8: (4 sc, dec) × 4 (20)
R9: CC to secondary color, FLO:
 ( [4 hdc in one stitch], [3 hdc in one stitch] ) × 10 (70)

Place safety eyes (if using them) between R6 and R7 before closing/stuffing later.

Tentacles

Long Tentacle (make 1, primary color)

R1: ch 39, turn
R2: starting in 2nd ch from hook, inc in each stitch across (76)

Short Tentacles (make 2, primary color)

R1: ch 31, turn
R2: starting in 2nd ch from hook, inc in each stitch across (60)

Medium Tentacles (make 2, secondary color)

R1: ch 35, turn
R2: starting in 2nd ch from hook, inc in each stitch across (68)

Bottom Piece (make 1, primary color)

R1: 6 sc in MR (6)
R2: inc in each stitch around (12)
R3: (sc, inc) × 6 (18)
R4: (8 sc, inc) × 2 (20)
FO, leave a long tail for sewing

Assembly

  1. Sew all tentacles to the bottom piece.

  2. Start with the long tentacle centered.

  3. Attach one medium tentacle next to it.

  4. Place the second medium tentacle opposite it to form a straight line.

  5. Sew short tentacles on either side, opposite each other.

  6. Stuff the body firmly.

  7. Attach the bottom piece to close the body securely.
